Image Makers Association Australia is a not for profit association. The work we do is funded entirely by our membership.  We aim to develop a strong volunteer network to build our capacity and share the load of the GOVERNING committee.

Governing COMMITTEE

All committee members work together and meet monthly to make decisions for the association. The committee actively engages their individual networks to support membership growth and educate industry regarding the association. Governance is shared and all committee members contribute to various aspects of representing the association at meetings, webinars and industry and government forums.

  • DIANNA SNAPE - PRESIDENT

    Dianna Snape is a graduate of RMIT’s BA (Photography) (Honours) course with over 20 years experience in the field. She is Image Makers Association Australia’s first president and initiated and managed the formation of the association engaging staff, accountants, insurers and lawyers.

    Dianna works closely with our Communications Manager, Rhiannon Slatter and Administrative Assistant Isabella Elordi to ensure the core goals and priorities of the association are met and the day to day administrative tasks are supported.

    Dianna worked with Rhiannon on updating the ‘Copyright, Commissioning & Publishing Architectural Photography’ originally produced by Dianna when she served as a board member for the ACMP.

    Dianna also oversees Image Makers website enhancements and updates, as well as budgeting & finances and supports the association with strategic decision making and industry representation.

  • ben guthrie - Vice President

    Ben Guthrie has formal training in fine art photography, 15 years working in architecture and over 25 years of ongoing photographic practice.

    Ben is Image Makers Association Australia representative at Government consultations on copyright held by the Attorney General’s department. Ben worked with Communications Manager Rhiannon Slatter preparing the member survey that informed our response to the Government Copyright Enforcement Review and engaged in a dedicated 1 hour consultation with the Attorney General’s department to further represent the concerns and needs of commercial Image Makers throughout Australia.

    Ben also prepared Image Makers Association Australia’s AI Survey and response to the Government’s ‘Supporting Responsible AI: Discussion Paper’ and presented ‘Copyright, Commissioning & Publishing Architectural Photography’ for the Regional Architecture Association on behalf of Image Makers Association Australia in May 2023.

  • SHANNON McGRATH - Treasurer

    Shannon McGrath has a BA in Fine Art (RMIT), Diploma of Photography (RMIT) & MFA Masters in Fine Art (RMIT) and has been photographing architecture and interior design works for 25 years. Shannon is Image Makers Association Australia’s first Treasurer and played an integral role in the formation of the association.

    Shannon prepared the first draft of the Terms & Conditions document and managed the association’s Instagram account and new member profiles. Shannon presented to RMIT Photography students to announce our student membership and is working proactively with commercial photographers to understand and expand our membership offering.

    Shannon supports the association with strategic decision making and industry representation.

  • Natasha Alessio-MulHALL - secretary

    Natasha Alessio-Mulhall is an Architectural and lifestyle photographer based in nipaluna / Hobart and works with many of lutruwita/Tasmania's talented architects, designers and tourism brands as well as capturing projects around Australia.

    She studied and worked as an Interior Architect before transitioning to photography in 2012 and has established relationships with valued clients in the Architectural, Tourism and Government sectors, such as Liminal Studio, Cumulus Studio, Brand Tasmania and The Tasmanian Department of Premier and Cabinet.

    Natasha has generously donated her time researching group chat tools for members and producing the framework for a photography shoot checklist.

  • brett boardman - committee member

    Brett Boardman is a commercial photographer with a degree in architecture from the University of Sydney. Brett was Image Makers Association Australia’s first vice president and played an integral role in the formation of the association.

    Brett prepared our 2022 & 2023 member surveys, formulated the results and presented the 2022 & 2023 member forums. He also led the 2023 exhibition sub committee.

    Brett supports the association with strategic decision making and industry representation.

RETIRED COMMITTEE MEMBERS

  • JACK LOVEL - Secretary (June 2022- May 2023)

    Jack Lovel is an architectural photographer based in Melbourne with over a decade of experience.

    Jack was part of Image Makers Association Australia inaugural committee, providing valuable insight and support in our first 12 months. Jack managed our inaugural exhibition ‘1 Shot 22’ with the support of our Communications Manager Rhiannon Slatter. Jack arranged sponsorship for the event and managed the installation of works and logistics.

    Jack resigned from the committee at the end of our inaugural year to commit his time to some exciting professional opportunities in 2023. We look forward to seeing the outcome of these projects and are grateful for Jack’s support in our foundation year.

  • LUCAS ALLEN - MENTOR 2024

    Lucas Allen started shooting professionally at the age of 21.

    28 years on, his work continues to be varied and includes interiors, still life, travel, food and portraiture. Published in a wide array of international magazines, Lucas is also regularly commissioned to shoot for hotels, catalogs and advertising campaigns.

    Originally from Melbourne, Australia, Lucas now splits his time between his home in Australia and the US.

    Lucas will generously donate his time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members.

  • TOM FERGUSON - MENTOR 2024

    Tom Ferguson is an Architectural and Interiors photographer. Based in Sydney, Australia but working both nationally and internationally, Tom has over 15 years experience photographing the built environment. Tom is also an accomplished Architect having had his own architectural practice since 2007.

    Tom will generously donate his time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members.

  • ANDREW RICHEY - MENTOR 2024

    Andrew Richey is a commercial advertising photographer that loves to work with people and in places that inspire him to create aesthetic images with flair. He is formally trained in photography, drama and dance - a unique skillset utilised frequently in over 20 years of professional experience.

    Andrew will generously donate his time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members.

  • MARTINA GEMMOLA - MENTOR 2024

    Martina is a photographer in Melbourne (Naarm) who works with designers of all disciplines. After living in Europe and the USA, she honed her craft, capturing her surroundings with sensitivity and balance. Led by light and form, she is constantly delighted by the spaces and objects she works with, and the warm relationships she forms with her clients.

    Martina will generously donate her time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members.

    Garth has been shooting for over 25 years and the diversity and challenges in creating images is what he enjoys most.

    Based in Perth, Western Australia and specialising in architectural, interior, and lifestyle photography. Dion has a great appreciation for light and the way it moves through spaces.

    Dion has generously donated his time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members.

    He is also the WA representative for our 2023 exhibition committee.

  • Sharyn Cairns - Mentor 2023

    Sharyn is at the forefront of commercial photography in Australia, with a specialist portfolio spanning interiors, food, travel, and lifestyle. She is committed to creating beautiful images that capture a mood and an emotion, playing with light and shadows to create levels of depth and distinctive memorable scenes.

    Sharyn has generously donated her time to offer a 12 month mentorship to one of our Assisting/Emerging or Student Members, as well as produce the layout for the photo book for our ‘1 Shot 22’ exhibition that will be available to order.

  • Nicole England - Mentor 2023

    Nicole is in her element capturing the fleeting moments. When the sun is setting, the light changing minute to minute, as the building seems to come alive in front of her very eyes.

    Based in Melbourne, Australia. Tom Blachford specialises in Interiors, Architecture, Aerial and Fine Art photography.

    He also donated his time to host a webinar which explored image making with AI.

  • Mark Syke - Mentor 2023

    Mark has been photographing architecture and design for more than a decade.

    He creates authentic and distinct images for architects and designers that interpret and communicate buildings and interiors.

  • EMMA CROSS - EXHIBITION COMMITTEE 2023 & 2024

    Emma Cross has a BA from Melbourne University (Anthropology & Archaeology) and a Diploma of Art in Photography from NMIT (now Melbourne Polytechnic), and has been working in the industry for 20 years, photographing architecture, landscape and industry.

    Emma has generously donated her time to be a VIC representative for our 2023 exhibition committee. Emma also works as a volunteer for a Project for inclusion in the photography industry and is part of our 2024 exhibition committee.

  • BO WONG - EXHIBITION COMMITTEE 2023 & 2024

    Bo studied Fine Art History, Aboriginal Studies, Photography and Communications – in that order. She is passionate about representing artists’ work with integrity and strive to understand an artwork to convey it clearly through photographs.

    Bo has generously donated her time to be the SA representative for our 2023 exhibition committee and leads our 2024 exhibition committee.

  • ANNE STROUD - EXHIBITION COMMITTEE 2024

    Anne Stroud is an Australian Professional Interiors and Architectural photographer based in Sydney and Canberra. Her considered images evoke a sense of place and understanding of how people interact within their natural and built environment.

    Anne generously volunteers as part of our 2024 exhibition committee.

  • JOHN GOLLINGS - EXHIBITION COMMITTEE 2024

    John Gollings is a photographer specializing in the built environment including the documentation of both ancient and modern cities around the world. He made his first photographs and received darkroom tuition at age eleven. Later studied Arts/Architecture at Melbourne University and RMIT. By 1967 Gollings had begun work as a freelance advertising photographer specialising in fashion. This work gradually broadened into large scale location work and travel accounts.

  • Brett Boardman - exhibition lead 2023

    Brett is a Founding Committee Member of Image Makers Association and led the ‘1 Shot 23’ exhibition committee coordinating and assisting the sub committee and flying around the country at his own expense to ensure all the installations went smoothly.

    He introduced both the Sydney and Melbourne openings and assisted with all the logistics.

  • KAtherine LU - EXhibition Committee 2023

    Katherine Lu is a photographer based in Sydney. After graduating in interior design she has come to love the challenge of capturing architecture as photographic imagery.

    Katherine has generously offered her time to be one of the NSW representatives for our 2023 exhibition committee.

    Anthony Basheer is a photographer whose work explores the quieter, experiential moments found in buildings.

    Anthony generously donated his time to be the SA representative for the 1 Shot 23 exhibition committee.

    He also attended the Copyright Society’s 1 Hour webinar ‘Copyright, Class Action and AI’ seminar on behalf of Image Makers Association on 31/5/23.

  • KATE MATHIESON - EXHIBITION COMMITTEE 2023

    Kate is a Brisbane based photographer who started her working life at RMIT University in Melbourne. She completed a Bachelor of Applied Science and then Graduate Diploma in Applied Science. Kate subsequently studied interior design followed by photography before realizing that architectural photography was the perfect fusion of these two disciplines.

    Kate has generously donated her time to be the QLD representative for our 2023 exhibition committee and authored a Tech Blog for members sharing her kit.

Identity & Branding

  • MARCUS PIPER - BRANDING & DESIGN LEADER

    Marcus was an integral support in the evolution of Image Makers Association Australia. He has been a longterm supporter of copyright for creatives and generously donated his industry knowledge and design skills to establish our logo and identity.

    Marcus’s support is on-going producing our member email signatures, social tiles and exhibition collateral.

    NaN is an exploratory and service-driven type design practice, creating for and collaborating with the weird, the wise and the wonderful.

    Their extensive type family, NaN Holo has been used across our identity, social media and exhibition collateral.

PRESENTerS

  • Tom Blachford - Image making with ai webinar

    Tom has spent the past decade exploring architecture both in fine art and commercial disciplines but has recently ventured into the world of AI. His work explores his varied interests in architecture, design and pop culture with a trademark subversive edge.

    Tom hosted a 1.5 hour webinar sharing his journey into text-to-image ai from the beginning and presenting some of his own series created with the technology. Tom also shared an up to the minute tutorial on image making using Mid Journey as well as prompt generation using chat GPT and methods for upsizing images.

    Tom also took part in hosting our Nikon webinar - Meet the Image Makers with Nikon School Australia.

  • john tsiavis - webinar

    John Tsiavis divides his time between Los Angeles, Mexico and Melbourne. He is a director of brand films, documentaries and television commercials, as well as an entertainment, portrait, and fashion photographer.

    John generously donated his time to host a webinar where he shared some of his photographic and directorial work, gave insight into his journey to America and some of his experiences throughout his unique career.

  • Lynton Crabb - RMIT Presentation

    Lynton Crabb is a photographer, motion director, creative director and visual strategist.

    Raised in India and Papua New Guinea, Lynton is now based in Australia and shoots throughout Asia, Australia and Oceania. Good at creating the moment, his work features people and places with a linking strategic style. His portfolio includes property, lifestyle and portraiture. Lynton studied BA (Photography) at RMIT and has been on the course advisory panel for the RMIT University School of Creative Media.

    Lynton generously donated his time to give a presentation to RMIT Photography students to promote the launch of our student membership.

  • KristoFFER PAULSEN - RMIT Presentation

    Kristoffer is a photographer based in Melbourne, Australia. After a decade or so assisting, random crappy jobs then working in music for a while Kristoffer finally got serious about his career. Where many are happy with a pretty picture, Kristoffer has always sought out images that compel us, images that tell a story.  

    Kristoffer generously donated his time to give a presentation to RMIT Photography students to promote the launch of our student membership.

  • MATTHEW SHERREN - CANBERRA INSTITUTE OF TECHNOLOGY PRESENTATION

    Matthew Sherren is an architectural photographer based in Canberra, Australia.

    Amber Sinclair is Executive Producer at Lynton Crabb Photography. Working alongside Lynton for 20 years, together they have delivered iconic imagery for some of Asia Pacific’s largest corporations. As well as consulting on budgets and briefs, she collaborates with companies, creative teams and brand agencies to co-ordinate productions of all sizes and complexity. With a passion for exceptional creative outcomes, she is just as happy producing projects around the corner as across the globe. Amber studied Arts at the University of Melbourne.

    Sian is a passionate still life, advertising and lifestyle photographer known for her stunning technical skill and creative vision. Her work explores a cinematic style charged with emotion - speaking through light and its relationship to form.

VOLUNTEERS

  • Robert Edwards - Standards Australia

    Robert is representing Image Makers Association Australia at Standards Australia - Australia's representative for the International Organization for Standardisation, specifically ISO Technical Committee 42 (Photography). As a result of this Image Makers Association Australia now has both a national and international voice when photography standards are being developed and updated. 

    There are dozens of areas covered by TC42 relevant to professional photographers, from file formats, to specifications for autofocus, sensors, lenses, metadata, printing, colour profiles, photo chemistry and more.

  • MARNIE HAWSON - Sustainable PRACTICE DOCUMENT

    Marnie began her professional life as an environmental scientist. Today, as a photographer she continues to measure her impact. She is B Corp certified, her practice is carbon neutral, and she’s a member of 1% For the Planet. Marnie is based in the Macedon Ranges just outside of Melbourne.

    Marnie prepared an educational paper for Image Makers Association Members to assist with developing an ethical, sustainable & culturally aware practice. The document is available via the Member Portal.

  • JADE CANTWELL - EXhibitions & EVENTS updates

    Jade studied Media Arts and Film Production at UTS (Sydney), magical realism at Universidad Veracruzana (Mexico) and Arabic in Damascus.

    Jade supports the association by helping keep our ‘Events & Exhibitions’ and ‘News’ sections up to date with information and opportunities.

    Reannon is a Melbourne-based photographer with a love for all things architecture.

  • Ross Coulter - virtual tour of 1 shot 23 exhibition

    Ross Coulter holds a BFA (Hons) and MFA (Research) from the Victoria College of the Arts. Ross has exhibited widely in a variety of galleries locally and internationally including a solo exhibition at the National Gallery of Victoria in 2017.

    Ross created a 3D tour of the 1 Shot 23 Exhibition.
