Boronia Road (1 of 5) - Peter Bennetts

“In 2007, after my Nanna, Jean Bastian nee Murray had died at age 91 I photographed her house in the Sydney Eastern Suburb of Bellevue Hill.

Poppy, my grandfather had bought the house on Boronia Road during WWII, my mum and her two sisters were born into the house, Nanna lived in house for 67 years.
As a kid, I’ve holiday memories of Nanna’s sage wisdom, Christmases, running in the sprinklers, and when stung by bluebottles at nearby Bondi vinegar baths. We were always welcome.
Nanna always took absolute pride in her home, it was sanctuary of order with beds always made, flowers freshly cut, the dishes done. All was always in place.

I photographed Nanna’s home as I found it, moving nothing except the camera, documenting for myself, family and friends, a memory of a world lost to time. Whilst Nanna isn’t in these photographs she and all of us are in these photographs of her home.”
